permanent split capacitor (PSC) motor
a single‐phase motor that has a capacitor conƟnuously in series with the start winding
phase angle
the degree of difference between two AC sine waves
pole
one set of contacts, such as in a switch or relay
polyphase generator
a generator that rotates three conducƟng loops (three‐phase)
polyphase motor
a motor that operates on three‐phase current
posiƟve charge
the charge that results from an excess of protons or lack of electrons
posiƟve temperature coefficient thermistor (PTC)
a thermistor that increases resistance as temperature increases
potenƟal relay
a relay with normally closed contacts and a coil with very high resistance that is energized (opened)
by counter EMF from the start windings
primary winding (pri)
the coil of a transformer to which source voltage is applied
proton
a posiƟvely charged parƟcle located in the nucleus of an atom
Q
quick‐connect
a solderless terminal with a push‐on connecƟon
R
rf
abbreviaƟon for radio frequency
rpm
abbreviaƟon for revoluƟons per minute
raceway
a channel, conduit, or runway for conductors or cables
