a mechanical rotaƟng electric device that converts mechanical energy to Direct Current (DC) electrical

energy

Greenfield

a flexible metal conduit used in applicaƟons  that require bends at various angles

ground (GRD)

n. a common point of zero potenƟal such as a motor frame or chassis

v. to connect a circuit to the earth, thus making a complete circuit

ground fault interrupter circuit (GFIC or GFI)

an electrical device that opens a circuit that has been accidentally grounded

H

hard‐start kit

a kit consisƟng of a start relay and capacitor to provide high starƟng torque

hertz (Hz)

a unit of frequency equal to one cycle per second

high‐voltage circuit

a circuit involving a potenƟal of more than 600 volts

horsepower (HP)

measure of the amount of work a motor can produce during a period of Ɵme

hot wire

a lead with a voltage difference between it and another hot wire or a neutral wire

HVACR

heaƟng, venƟlaƟng, air condiƟoning, and refrigeraƟon

ICE

an acronym used to help remember that current (I) in a capaciƟve (C) circuit leads voltage (E)

impedance

total resistance to electron flow in an AC circuit caused by resistance, inducƟve, and/or capacitance

reactance measured in Ohms, represented by the symbol Z
